How To Get Healthier Nails: 5 New Year’s Resolutions For Stronger Nails In 2020
You never need a new year, month or week to make a change, but there’s something about the start of a new decade that offers a fresh start.
Whether you’re already a pro with your nail care or need a helping hand to learn how to get healthier nails, we’ve set some New Year’s Resolutions for you to help you grow gorgeous new nails in 2020!
Use Cuticle Oil Daily
Taking care of your cuticles is number one on the list for helping your nails grow healthy and stronger. Without regular care, your cuticles can become dry and damaged, and your nails prone to snagging and breaking.
Cuticle Oil, especially when used daily or multiple times throughout the week, is key to hydrating your nails, promoting nail growth and offering a layer of protection. Keep a Cuticle Oil handy to make sure you remember to apply it – we either keep it in our handbag for on-the-go application or next to our bed to apply it in the evening leaving all night for the oil to sink into your skin.
Never Peel Your Gel Off
While it can be ever so tempting to pick at your gel once you’re ready to remove it, it could well mean disaster for your nail health. Picking off gel instead of using a good quality gel remover means that, not only are you removing the gel polish, but chances are you’re taking a layer of your nail off with it!
Instead, make sure you remove gel nails safely from home using remover wraps or soaking in acetone – trust us, your nails will thank you for it.
Learn How To Properly File Your Nails
Find yourself ‘sawing’ back and forth when filing your nails? Then you’re filing your nails wrong. For a smooth finish for your nails – and to limit the damage caused by over-filing – make sure you file in one direction with short, smooth strokes.
Once you’re happy with the shape on one side of the nail, move to the other to even it up. Our Bluesky Nail Files have a dual grade grit of 100/180, with the 180 grit being the softer side that’s great to use when shaping your nails.
Make Sure You Prep Properly
It can be tempting to go straight in with your gel manicure – especially when you’ve just received some new colours! But rushing or forgetting the prep stage can mean your new manicure lasts a couple of days instead of a couple of weeks.
Our top tips for nail prep include: gently pushing back your cuticles, ensuring your nails are free of oils by wiping them with a cleanser wipe, softly buffing your nails to remove the shine off the surface so the gel can adhere to the nail.
Experiment With Different Colours
We all have our go-to shades and colours we feel most comfortable in (classic red gel polish, anyone?). So, we’re challenging you, and ourselves, to opt for new shades in 2020.
On average, it’s said to take 66 days to form a habit. So if you find yourself struggling to stick to your New Year’s Resolutions, don’t worry – persevere and you’ll have gorgeous nails in no time!
